Maximizing cross-ventilation and the opportunities provided by its location in Manoa Valley, the main feature of the ADU is the utilization of folding glass doors as walls. Due to the limited size of the ADU, the building allows for the perception of a larger home as walls appear transparant and movable.The ADU has a total of 384 sq ft of enclosed space and a total living area of 702 sq ft.

Split into two smaller sections, the private and the public, the forms of the units’ sweeping shed roofs are paired with carefully placed clearstory jalousie windows to maximize thermal ventilation. A central walkway which shares the comon space between the living area and private areas help to create a negative pressure space for air flow.

The ADU unit is best when paired with entertaining, as the large deck and openess to the surrounding area encourages gathering as if within the shade of a cool gazeebo. To address privacy issues, landscaping will be introduced to both shade the eastern facade of the unit and shield veiws from the street and neighboring properties.
