Qingpu Metro Shopping Centre

*provided as an early design study for further enhancment

Awarded the ability to connect a new shopping centre to a major metro stop in the Qingpu district of Shanghai, the client requested a design exploration that utilized non-metallic features to soften its presence along the street. Consisting mainly of restaurants and markets, the Qingpu Shopping Centre creates dynamic spaces within itself.

The facade utilizes faceted precast panels to break up the exterior surfaces, indicating the sensation of flow. A central atrium penetrates the ground and merges with the pedestrian traffic entering and exiting the newst addition to the Shanghai Metro. Framed views out of the centre burst forth from the centre and provide presence for hungry patrons eager to find a good place to eat.
